Hemel Hempstead

the boats at the canal

Me, Oliver and Ange outside Ye Old Red Lion, Rose's old pub
Our last port of call was Hemel Hempstead where we stayed with some friends we met on the Milford Track last year. We spent three nights with them and their son Oliver. Ange and Philip came and joined us on Saturday and we spent the day walking by the canal river, followed by a pub lunch, followed by a visit to the school and pub Rose worked at during her gap year. We went into the pub and had a drink, asked the barmaid if she remembered Rose (Rose worked there 4 years ago) but unfortunately she didn't. Had a lovely few days with Jan, Sarah and Oliver, Sarah is such a good cook, often giving us three courses and here we were wondering why we had all put on weight (mainly me and dad really). She loaded me up with goodies to take home, fresh tomatoes from her garden, apples from her tree and brownie for Geoff.

A somewhat stressful drive back to London, only really in the last ten minutes as I really didn't recognise any places and we were so close to my flat. I know, typical me very bad with directions but finally we made it. We all got together for dinner at our flat that night followed by a sad morning the next day having to say goodbye to Mum and Dad.
