Jamie's podcast
Yesterday Farouk (a friend of mine who works at Fifteen restaurant) invited me to a PodCast recording for Jamie Oliver's website. Three hours of free wine (this was, according to Jamie, to 'lube' us all up), watching Jamie cook (he is possibly the funniest person I've ever met !) and getting to taste all the food made was my idea of heaven ! There were only about 30 people there and it was an incredibly relaxed environment, however I think I was one of the few 'fans' as everyone seemed to know Jamie or worked in the restaurant. After the show, Farouk showed me around the Fifteen offices, staff room and then took me to dinner at the restaurant ! Definately one of, if not THE highlight of my time over here, I felt like I had won a competition or something !!! Thanks Farouk, you're the best !!!!! xx

Dans Le Noir
Discovered this amazing restaurant in Farringdon where you eat in complete darkness. The website describes this as a 'culinary experience' and helps to make people more aware of people who are blind. We were led to our table by our blind waitor and shown our seats in a room that was COMPLETELY DARK, there was no light anywhere. We were there for an hour an a half and had ordered our meal before hand. You don't order what you want, you order what you don't want so it's a suprise. Geoff got a roast beef meal complete with roast veges and yorkshire pud, (could this have turned out more perfect !!!?) and I got red snapper, couscous, cabbage and spicy salsa. We ate with our fingers which was great (I do not recommend you try to eat couscous with your fingers, gets quite messy !!!) and for dessert we had a rum caramel custard which was also interesting eaten with both spoon and fingers.
We went with 6 other people and the room got quite noisy at times as there were many other diners. It was strange and harder to communicate because you couldn't tell if someone was actually listening to you or not, and if someone didn't speak for a while you forgot that they were there. Also more difficult to communicate because you couldn't use hand gestures as you spoke. An amazing experience however felt slightly nauseous and dizzy when we finally came out of the room.
Londoners I recommend. (closest tube is Farringdon) www.danslenoir.co.uk
